Dr. Dathis’ teaching career spans three decades, along with her legal inroads on behalf of Haitian
immigrants, serving as Cabinet Member, Ministry of Justice & Public Safety in Haiti, her work in
international law, speaking engagements, workshop presentations, research, grants, and
awards.
As Director of the Haitian Refugees Center, she received the Carter-Menil Human Rights Awards,
given by President Jimmy Carter on CNN.

Dr. Dathis has a long history of professional work internationally and in the U.S. Here in the U.S.,
she worked as a Legal Consultant on International business transaction, aviation law,

Congresswoman Carrie Meek’s office, Miami, Fl.; Director of Project: Rockland Apostolate

Brooklyn, New York: Counseling and job placement for newly arrived immigrants.
Her educational background provides a solid foundation and includes a PhD. in Sociology with
emphasis in Race & Ethnicity and Social Psychology from Texas A&M University, School of Arts

Law with emphasis in International Law and Business; State University, Faculty of Law, Gonaives,

She is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Sociological Association,
Southwestern Social Science Association, Southern Sociological Society, and the Haitian Studies

Dr. Dathis is relentless in her dedication to apply sociology, human rights, social justice, and the
plight of immigrants to the U.S. She is invited to speak at National and International conferences.
Dr. Dathis published “Multifaced Immigrant Haitian Families Coping Strategies & Strengths in
June 2021. Immigration Social Rebounds in U.S.” Kenneth Usongo (Ed) The Cultural and
Historical Heritage: Interrogating the Post colony. Cambridge Scholars, England in June 2022,

She is currently working on two books and articles, and some are under review.
